Positioned on the shores of the North Haven marina, Marina Residence draws inspiration from past maritime activities of the district, the tectonics of timber wharf construction and the boat building yards that once occupied the banks of the Port River.

Typically, boat yards were characterised by buildings that have evolved over time as the demand for additional space was met with layers of additions onto the original form. Marina Residence references this typology through the experimentation of composition via varying forms, volumes and materials.

The house has a durable masonry street frontage, with strategic openings to capture outlooks of the adjacent sea. The rear timber grid façade utilises a recycled jarrah framing system, connected by a series of expressed steel plates and bolts. In the foreground, marine plywood and jarrah clad the rear façade and assist in highlighting the timber grid.
